Facilitating Climate Resilient Alternative Livelihood Schemes for Vulnerable Communities

Climate Adaptation & Resilience

Lead: Dr. Sarah Johnson

Summary

Initiated in February 2017 and continuing, this Daahuk-associated project facilitates climate-resilient alternative livelihoods for vulnerable communities in Tanguar Haor, an ecologically critical wetland. It combines boat renovation, skill development, and eco-tourism to empower marginalized groups, turning research into action for self-reliant communities. Awarded PMI South Asia Project of the Year 2023 for its impact, it has trained over 1,000 people and created 500+ jobs. Operating in regions like Sirajganj, Cox’s Bazar, Kurigram, Munshiganj, and Sunamganj, it blends data-driven insights with community solutions, aligning with Development for Profit and sustainability values. Complementary to NRB investment research, it proposes tax incentives and PPPs for resilient growth, fostering inclusion, biodiversity preservation, and economic empowerment through cooperative models and innovative funding.
